Launch of the Abibitumi Film Club
Abibitumi Film Club Launch
Featuring Abouna
Hosted by Ọnụọra & Ọbádélé
The Abibitumi Film Club Launch revives and expands the legacy of the AES Film Series by creating a new home for Black cinema, storytelling, culture, and liberation-centered discussion. Through curated screenings, conversations, and critical engagement, the Abibitumi Film Club will provide a space for serious reflection on films that speak to Black experience across the world.
The launch screening features Abouna, directed by Mahamat-Saleh Haroun, a powerful story of two brothers searching for their father and for meaning in a world shaped by loss, hope, and change. The film opens the door to deep conversation around family, absence, memory, childhood, and the emotional landscapes of Black life.
The event will be hosted by Ọnụọra and Ọbádélé and will include a film screening, discussion, and Q&A. The launch also features a special conversation with cinematographer Abraham Haile Biru, offering participants rare insight into the visual language and creative process behind film as a tool of memory, meaning, and cultural restoration.
