A Nandi Warrior with his bow and arrow.
This photo was taken in 1906 by Col Richard Meinertzhagen, the British Military Officer who shot and murdered Koitalel Samoel in 1905. In one of the most shameful and despicably devious acts perpetrated by the British in Kenya. He assasinated (at point blank range) Koitalel Samoel, the spiritual leader, the Orkoiyot, the Supreme Chief of the Nandi who rebelled against the British colonial rule. He was callously shot as well as his entire military council in broad daylight at a peace meeting the British had appealed for. Only one survivor managed to escape and therefore able to narrate what happened.
