      Within the Dogon, clothing has a great importance. Sewing is the mens business and some are well known for their skill in their area. According to age, the clothes change over time, the trousers and the tunic becomes larger until the age of 40, the men are wearing a shirt and sleeveless tunic. The long tunic closed and with sleeves and the baggy trousers are the privilege of the older men.

      An important accessory of the men is the traditional hat which has become more occasional in the dogon community. Two pieces of rectangular fabric are stiched together on three sides and is said can be worn in total eight different ways, all of which have a name when the man is getting older.
