Just learned the results of two DNA tests I had done by two DNA companies – one in Canada and the other a popular company in the USA. Both were shockers but both were the same. My paternal line is from the Somali and my maternal Akan (Ghana). WOW!!!

While my maternal result revealed the Akan it also said I belong to the Fante subgroup. I have a question…..do the Akan and Fante speak different languages?

Fante is a subset of Akan. My PhD thesis covered the three major Akan literary dialects, namely Asante Twi, Fante and Akuapem Twi.
