I had the privilege to hear and see Dr. Clarke on several occasions. But the most memorable was his appearance at Malcolm X College (Chicago). Because there were only 10 people in attendance it was decided that the lecture be moved from the auditorium to a classroom. Up close and personal it was for 3 hours plus a question and answer period. A master griot I hung on to his every word. A lesson in how to recite history not in a formalized euro-centric fashion, no. Dr. Clarke was personable, reflective and anecdotal in his recollections and narrative. He taught Black history, world wide and ‘HOW’ to teach African history in a pan Africanist perspective.2 Comments14 Abibisika (Black Gold) Points
I got to see Dr. Clarke in person once. I really felt fortunate and have kept the program since October 1992. Runoko Rashidi and Jan Carew spoke at the conference as well.

That sounds like a powerful program. What history! thanks for mentioning Jan Carew. I had a chance to meet him and have dinner while he was here in Chicago for a teaching position. What a very beautiful brother.
