Background on the Trip & Our Role
In April–May 2024, ADDI brought over 200 members of the African Diaspora to Burkina Faso in a powerful cultural and investment mission. Building on that momentum, President Ibrahim Traoré extended an invitation for the Diaspora to return home and continue the unfinished work of Marcus Garvey. The 2025 Mission Trip (Oct 26–Nov 8, 2025) will include a citizenship ceremony, cultural immersion, Pan-African dialogues, trade fairs, community service, and more.
From the inception of this opportunity, Abibitumi has been supportive of the process. On February 2nd, 2025, we hosted H.E. Dr. Arikana Chihombori-Quao live on Abibitumi, where she discussed this groundbreaking citizenship initiative for Burkina Faso. In that interview, she emphasized that as adults we must take responsibility and organize ourselves, which is exactly what this Ghana Delegation meeting embodies.
Further demonstrating this commitment, I recently returned from Burkina Faso (August 3–10, 2025) on a fact-finding mission with African Diaspora 126+, and I will also be leading the 27th Annual Sankɔfa Journey from December 8–23, 2025. Importantly, the Burkina Faso leg (December 18–21) will mark the first major official delegation of new Burkina Faso citizens to return to the country subsequent to the ADDI citizenship trip — a historic milestone in action.
We also have a yet-to-be-signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with ADDI on the table, further underscoring our dedication to supporting and advancing Burkina Faso initiatives.
This coordination meeting is an initiative of individual ADDI members to ensure our Ghana-based delegation is prepared, connected, and ready to make the most of this historic opportunity.
