Resilience at the Abibitumi Conference: Overcoming the Rain, Celebrating Black Excellence

Nature has its plans, and sometimes, they don’t align with ours. Saturday’s much-anticipated outdoor concert was a perfect example. Just as the festivities were gearing up, rain clouds darkened the sky and down came the showers. What could have been a dampener, however, became a testament to the spirit of unity, resilience, and adaptability that the conference embodied.

Quick thinking and a collective spirit saw the event promptly move indoors. Far from dampening spirits, the shift seemed to amplify the excitement. Crowds gathered, adults and children alike, grooving to the beats of Pure Akan, a.k.a. Akan, and other performers who refused to let the rain play spoilsport. Inside the impressive Abibitumi headquarters, the music echoed louder, the energy soared higher, and the essence of the celebration shone even brighter.

Amid the musical and dance performances, the Kambon family stood out, not just for their significant contributions but as a shining example of a powerful black family’s synergy. The synergy was evident when Kamau Kambon took the stage alongside his son, Dr. Obadele Kambon, also fondly known as Nana Kwame. Their joint presentation left a lasting impression on the minds of all present. Mama Mawiyah Kambon delved deep into the realms of spirit and mental health, illuminating the paths to leverage these for collective upliftment.

The event’s organization, led by Kala Kambon, Mama Njideka, and Ohenenana, was a masterclass in meticulous planning and execution. Attendees were bathed in an aura of black excellence, feeling every bit of the event’s Blacktastic nature. The positive feedback and buzz around the conference were so profound that signups for the 2024 edition are already in motion, promising an event even grander.

However, the jewel in the conference’s crown was the award ceremony. The presence of Mukasa Dada at the first annual Abibitumi conference elevated the event’s stature. Witnessing a luminary receive a well-deserved Lifetime Achievement Award sent waves of inspiration across the attendees, from the elders to the youth. It was a poignant reminder of the unparalleled achievements possible when unified in purpose and spirit.

The MMGS Marcus Messiah Garvey Foundation magnified this sentiment. Their orchestration of the ceremony, complete with hand-carved awards, embodied the spirit of the occasion, capturing the essence of what the Abibitumi conference aimed to celebrate and propagate.

In essence, the Abibitumi Conference wasn’t just an event; it was a statement – of resilience, unity, and black excellence. It manifested the power of collective effort and served as an encouraging call for a brighter, united future.

  1. This is a well-thought out review of the Abibitumi Conference Ama. You captured the spirit and energy of the event. It is truly remarkable that the concert could not be held up by Mother Nature. Good works!
