In 1890, at the First Mohonk Conference on the Negro Question, John C. Covert states:
“Unless they [Africans] are elevated by religion and education, they will inevitably impart to the coming generation the same defects which slavery has bred in them and their parents” (Barrows, 1890, p. 31).
He’s correct, but the answer isn’t Eurocentric…

It seems like whenever I read texts from slavery days and colonial days, it seems to suggest Europeans are the parents and Africans are the children.
It seems like Europeans are raising Africans to become a well rounded children to be productive in their society.
