When I was young a elder told me about a place called Tupelo Mississippi that was a Black Sundown Town for others.

@Kwame I used to think a ‘Sundown Town’ was a town where if you were there and were black, then you had to leave before the sun went down, but according to what Ive read so far it’s a little more to it than that. In many cases, black ppl were driven from these towns and there were ‘written’ and ‘unwritten’ laws to keep black ppl from moving into these areas. It probably still goes on in an underlying way not just in small towns, but some ‘exclusive’ areas in larger cities. You should try reading the book if you havent already done so.

I understand the definition of a “Sundown Town” and all of its implications. I did not know until an elder told me about her experiences in the South when I was younger. And that was one of her stories that amazed me. There was actually a place where Black People fought back in their own way even though there were lynchings and other atrocities.

What place was that? Id like to know more about the black populations that fought against caucasoid aggression. Thx for commenting.
