      I remember one brilliant Saturday morning being seated midway back on a crowded tour bus as others settled rather noisily into their seats. A sista I hadn’t seen for quite some time stepped onto the bus looking around for space. I greeted her cheerily, “Hey Afrikan!” She looked my way, laughed warmly when she spotted me and greeted me with the same kind words, Silence- and looks of discomfort on so many of their beautiful, deeply-hued faces… When my sista got to my row we hugged and shook our heads, well-aware of some of our travel companions’ manufactured disconnect. 4 years ago ·
