What is traditional Ghanaian fabric? Do many of us know the batik cloth we think is Afrikan print is made by Indians and Lebanese companies operating out of Ghana? How can we know the real from the fake? Does anyone have a list of vendors and suppliers that are Ghanian owned? 4 years ago ·

I did find this to add to the discussion. Though it’s by no means a complete representation of traditional fabric it is a nice sample.39,665 Abibisika (Black Gold) Points

What I do know is the use of a metal loom actually devalues traditional cloth which still relies on a wooden loom. Metallic looms and embroidery actually lower aesthetic among Dagumba, Ganjah, and Asante handwooven fabric.226 Abibisika (Black Gold) Points
Key point for the discussion I will leave here:
According to Akinwuni (2008, p. 188-
189) the prints (wax, fancy) is a wholesale copy of Indonesian batik style that use non-African
design motifs, but named ‘African Print’ to deceive African buyers.
