I first encountered Oya via her Santerian aspect. I like the pataki about her battle with Chango. He was angered for Oya had taught herself to use Shango’s mortar & gourd. Eshu tried to calm Chango by telling him(Chango) that Oya did this to work with him not to work against him. Chango eventually discovered Eshu was right.

This pataki is one reason I developed a close connection with Eshu . It’s also an example of why our ancestors’ communities thrived-Men and Women worked together to protect, maintain and develop these communities.
