The word Oboto is heart beat of the Nsukka Igbo village. A place for learning, spiritual practices and to bring people together. Although the Otobo is not a requirement but the existence of its activities are hosted on different times of the day, month or yearly.
“This is a perfect example of how people and places become interwoven, and how a group of people comes to value and feel attached to a particular place – even one that isn’t always in use. Similar spaces exist, but Otobo stands out because of the way it embodies every aspects of the Igbo culture.” – QuartzAfrica.
Oboto is the opportunity to take some times to learn about ourselves, others and ancestors. Our social, Political and economical, Cultural and social lives. It is served as a museum to communities when non-existence and a symbol of Nigerian modern democracy.-
I am sure Prophet Chinua Achebe spoke about this or it may be about the Nsukka Village, will look in my library…thank you Derrick.
