Hetep! Maaha anuanom! I’ve been expanding my Medu Netcher research lately and Ive been so amazed at how much rhythm is in the ancient language! My focus has been on a manuscript called the “Papyrus of Ani”. Within this manuscript are different groups of texts, and one of those groups is a collection of hymns. The particular hymn that Ive been reading is called the “Adoration of Rey”. The text is read from right-to-left, and top-to-bottom. In English, I translate the first line to read, “Praises to Rey when He Brilliantly Rises in the Eastern Horizon of Heaven”. In Medu Netcher it would phonetically sound something like,

“Dua Rey Khefet Wubenef Em Akhet iabetet Enet Pet.”

I was chanting this first line of the Hymn to Rey while doing some Sun salutations yesterday and that practice helped me hear the rhythm in these lyrics, especially towards the end of the sentence. The Ancestors was spittin!!
