From Ghana to DC, Spirit Travels Far. 🌍✨
In 1973, Okomfohemaa Nana Akua Oparebea—head priestess of the Nana Abena Akonnedi Shrine and spiritual advisor to Ghana’s first president, Kwame Nkrumah—journeyed to Washington, DC. Her visit strengthened the bridge between Africa and its diaspora, planting the roots of Akom in America and guiding the rise of a sacred community.
This September 27 at 5PM (EST), join Garveyite Productions for a free virtual viewing of rare Smithsonian footage from her historic trip. Experience the ceremonies, hear the songs, and witness the moment five Akan shrines were born in DC.
