Behind the name: Ebonics.
Ebonics is also referred to as African American Vernacular English (AAVE), Black English, Black Vernacular English. I personally prefer Ebonics because it highlights one of its essential features: sound. African languages are much more that grammar, syntax, and verbs. Sound and non-verbal language are equally important, systematic, with their set of rules.
