I see it to be similar to the replacement of eurasian colonial governor with Black president in these “countries” we were forced into. The core ideology remains the same. Power is ultimately vested in systems and not individuals

Although the story of Bisila is real history of the people from Bioko (it is part of their spirituality and their vision of how the spirits relate to humans), the story behind the construction of the monument is a “not very innocent” strategy for the free manifestation of the spirituality of the people. It reminds me a lot of the strategic “Virgin of Guadalupe” in Mexico… (everything gives a lot to think about)

Oh, pardon me, I assumed it was a bible character represented as black. In that case, I will have to read on Bisila

I would say that Bisila is one of the spiritual figures that have succeeded in maintaining despite not having a very ancient creation (I think it does not exceed 3000 years). You can find several versions, but everything revolves around the story of a young woman who in difficult times (war or illness, or impossibility of women to breastfeed babies -depends on the version-) was endowed with spiritual gifts to give solution to a real problem that some women were suffering to breastfeed their children (depends on the version, as a human she could see a spirit that had the solution…)…. [There are many versions -all very nice-; but everything revolves around a real story and a real problem that happened in Bioko].
Of course, Ruppé is the supreme spiritual entity (“creator”) and that is still maintained prior to Bisila.

Thankyou for the information. When I did a cursory look on the internet, what I found was this  https://www.iberia.com/es/destination-guide/malabo/the-bisila-virgin/ but I know I have to be cautious because of the eurasian tendency to depict us as naive and lacking in initiative

Bioko people are matrilineal. Children increase the woman’s line and it is her responsibility to increase it for the nation. So, I don’t understand how the concept of virginity can have a place in our culture? [But I wonder alone…]

Indeed. It doesn’t make any sense. I wish to see more Bubi literature in due time that present the actual facts on this and more

If I find a source that comes close to the actual story, I will share it with you. Now most of the stories I find are stories that assimilate it to “Virgin Mary”. When that has nothing to do with reality.
The “true story” (or one very close to reality) I had to ask an elderly person with a lot of knowledge of the culture; and he explained it to me very well a long time ago.

Bisila is such an important figure on a spiritual level for Bioko that one of the most common female names is Bisila. If one day you meet a woman named Bisila, you can be almost 100% sure that she has Bioko origins!🎯
