Loool….Not to art but to his position on art appreciation maybe…yes. We espouse a similar position in appreciating sacred vodu aesthetics. “I particularly experienced much difficulty in trying to but with very little success to elicit some secret and hidden meanings of vodu art accompanied by pithy phrases like: “wo mɛ dɛ’a vodu gɔmɛ fia amɛ o” and “hutɔr mɛ Ƒoa ɛnu tso vodu ntsi fuu o.” Which translates as “We dont reveal the hidden meanings of vodu art ” and “Vodu priests dont speak too much about vodu art”. Also observed a phenomenon of “aesthetics just for aesthetics sake” contrary to the widely held notion that African aesthetics is just restricted to functionality.
