The Maroons of Trelawny Town were unable to maintain their guerrilla campaign during the drought months, and Colonel George Walpole employed a scorched-earth policy, backed up by the importation of hunting dogs. By 22 December Walpole was able to persuade Montague James and his Maroon lieutenants, including Major Jarrett, Charles Samuels and Andrew Smith, to come to terms.[15][16] Walpole promised the Maroons that they would not be transported off the island if they laid down their arms, and the Trelawny Town warriors agreed to submit to terms. However, the governor, Alexander Lindsay, 6th Earl of Balcarres, exploited a loophole to reverse Walpole’s promise, and he promptly arranged for the deportation of just under 600 Trelawny Town Maroons to Nova Scotia, where they became Black Nova Scotians.[17][18]

I think there are some valuable lessons to be learnt here & we should never agree to any treaty with these savages because they have never honored treaties & never will. I admire the Maroons of Jamaica fighting skills, but them siding with d colonials to capture or kill fellow Afrikans has let me loose trust in them to a certain degree & I know I wasn’t there & what would I do if I was tbere, they had to do what they had to do to survive & I somewhat get that. But the fact that the savages dishonored the treaties should be cause for concern as to why keep up our side by still capturing and killing fellow Afrikans in service of the colonials or was it that they kept up their end of the treaty to just protect themselves & livelyhood & peace that they thought they had with the savages? There are so many things I question with the role that the Maroons played in stalling many revolts that their fellow enlslaved Afrikans instigated to free themselves. And by no means I’m broad brushing all Maroons because they were many who aided runaways and gave them safe passage etc. But the more I read and research is the more I realize that the more I think things change is the more they remain the same. Fast fwd today we are still fighting each other in service of the white terror dominators and it’s on so many different levels and if we look close enough the reasons could be similar reasons the Maroons where fighting their own enslaved Afrikan Sisters and brothers for. I noticed that the only way they overpowered us was by one of us, if the account is accurate what I read, it was a Maroon that captured & killed Chief Tacky during Tacky’s rebellion in the area I was born and raised in Jamaica. This is why all of history is to be told, the full story so we can balance things and see the shortcomings of our Ancestors and do things differently so the outcome can be different for us going fwd.
