How much does anybody know about Chief Takyi? It is said he was from the Akan peoples in Ghana. He was the leader in starting a rebellion in st mary where I was born but was cut down by a Maroon & the rest of his followers committed suicide rather than to be captured. I could be incorrect cuz there are so many theories on his death, this is why I like a full story a full balance story so I can make sense of it. Because just like religious books have many translations & mistranslations, errors, false information & among other things. I think some of our history materials can have errors among other things also. This is why for me personally I question everything. On first hearing about that it was a Maroon that killed him, I had great resentment towards Maroons because Takyi’s victory would not only devastate the british colonials in that region but would have spread like wild fire more heavily across the island and in the Caribbean at large, in a more effective way, leaving significant mark making all colonials shiver even today. Also if the Maroons didn’t sign a treaty & we all came under one banner who knows where we would stand in history today. However I no longer resent Maroons cuz they did what they had to do for themselves at the time, but I will not overlook the role they played in helping to destroy many of us and as we say in Jamaica me a sleep wid one eye open pan dem( sleeping with a one eye open watching them) not sure if it’s a healthy notion but we also have to protect ourselves & be wise & no that not all skin folk is kin folk & some among us will do whatever it is to protect & maintain their peace & quite even if it means the destruction of others.
