This lecture is soo deeply insightful – all of it.
But here my story: I did not know Ayi Kwei Armah, but I was offered Achebe about 8 years ago by the white parents of a friend. I had just finished Kwame Nkrumah’s ‘Dark Days In Ghana’ and they wanted to offer me a follow up. Well I did’nt ask THEM for it. But most of all I did’nt want any recommendation on anything afrikan by whites! My gutts turned upside down when I thought of these whites offering me (or: trying to school me in) something they call afrikan. I have since then not read anything of Achebe and right now I feel @obadelekambon that i did well in not trusting my enemy’s offer.
Not saying that I’ll never read Achebe but I’ll definately read Armah first! Watch at 1hour40m for the part on Armah.2 Comments-
