A “Fractal” is a figure, an evolution of nature which represents cut out and fragmentary forms revealing similar patterns at inceasingly finer scales of observation. Fractals are mathematics and they are found in fabrics (pictured below), art, hairdressing (pictured below), games, housebuilding and decorating (pictured below), divination and Afrikan mathematics.
Mathematics was born in Afrika as evidence of the Ishango bone (mathematical artifact) that was discovered in Kongo dated over 20,000 years ago as well as the oldest calculator and lunar calendar being the Lebombo bone that was discovered in South Afrika/ Swaziland and is over 44,000 years old is our reminder.
Our ancestors invented the Binary system and it is this system that allows us to run our computers and all our digital devices today. In the 10th century in Mauritania, this code was called Bamana and it was a method of divination based on algorithms. This method of divination was present throughout the continent but under different practices and names. This system then transited to Europe (middle ages) by the Arabs and the Moors and remained there for seven centuries.
The Mathematician Ron Eglash (in my last post) I used as an example as he undertook research on fractal systems throughout Afrika and he found in Mali, Cameroon, South Afrika… that the architecture of the houses, the disposition of the villages was not random, but based on fractal systems. This omnipresence of fractals in the Afrikan universe comes from a deep and millenial consciousness. According to Ron Eglash, such use (in almost all areas of life) would be exclusive to Afrika.
