Pictured below are Afro combs that are held at the Ashmolean Museum in Oxford here in the UK. These combs predate ancient Kemet as they are from the Naqada Period (c.3500 BC) and therefore shows how long the Afro has been a hairstyle in Afrika. Local deities can be seen engraved into the top of each comb and from here can be seen years later in the pantheon of deities in ancient Kemet.
These combs were of spiritual and social importance in ancient times. Only Chiefs and Royal Members were probably only allowed to use and wear such combs. The Naqada People were the first people to settle in Kemet therefore giving rise to the 1st Dynasty of Kings like Narmer the first King of unified Kemet.
