• Mozambique: Food, Jobs, Hope

At the 60th Maputo International Trade Fair (FACIM), President Daniel Chapo launched a $40m Mutual Guarantee Fund — backed by the World Bank — to support 15,000 small businesses, especially women and youth.

Agriculture remains central: Gaza province showcased bananas, rice, cashews, and macadamias, while Tete province displayed seafood, grains, and livestock. Local leaders insist the land and water are there — what’s missing is investment in processing and distribution.

Mozambique’s GDP growth in 2025 is projected at just 3%. Corruption scandals, post-election unrest, and an insurgency in Cabo Delgado have stalled major LNG projects. Analysts warn overreliance on natural gas has left the economy fragile.

Chapo’s message: “Economic independence starts with farmers, youth, women — all of us together.”

Historians agree: feed people, create jobs, build hope — and you prevent political crisis.

Mozambique’s path forward? Investment as the bridge to recovery.
