• 🇳🇦 Namibia: $28 Million Boost for Small-Scale Farmers

Namibia’s Ministry of Agriculture has committed over 28 million Namibian dollars to strengthen small-scale farming and bolster national food security. The program will directly support around 1,000 farmers engaged in horticulture, poultry, dairy production, and small livestock breeding.

Farmers will receive targeted subsidies for seeds, fertilizers, and equipment. In horticulture, discounts of up to 60% are available on fertilizers, while plowing services are provided at 500 N$ per hectare. Poultry producers benefit from subsidized feed, modern equipment, and dedicated farmer training programs.

For the dairy sector, assistance includes subsidies for livestock and equipment, with maximum support capped at 200,000 N$. Meanwhile, Namibia continues its initiative of distributing sheep and rams to vulnerable households to create sustainable income sources.

The initiative reflects Namibia’s efforts to ensure greater self-sufficiency in food production and reduce reliance on external imports—an approach that resonates with broader continental calls for food sovereignty.
