Ghana launches an agriculture modernization program: over 4000 units of machinery and new farmer service centers

Agriculture in Ghana accounts for 20% of GDP and provides jobs for about 35% of the population. In 2026, the country plans to deploy more than 4000 units of agricultural machinery in 50 districts, including tractors and combines, as part of the “Ghana Food Security Initiative” program (2025-2028).

Eleven farmer service centers with access to modern machines will be opened. The government has already signed agreements with foreign partners, including the Turkish manufacturer Hattat Traktör to establish a tractor assembly plant. Negotiations on supplies with Belarus have also taken place.

Currently, about 78% of agricultural work is done manually, which hinders the sector’s development.
