Uganda Ready to Process Its Own Cocoa, President Museveni Declares
“I am going to set up a chocolate factory here in Bundibugyo,” Yoweri Museveni stated during a visit to the cocoa-rich region, framing the project as a pivotal shift from exporting raw materials to adding value domestically.
🇺🇬🍫 Despite past failures to attract investors who claimed Uganda lacked necessary products, like milk and sugar, the president stated that an investor has now been found.
He emphasized that the long history of cocoa cultivation in Bundibugyo (since the 1990s) provides an excellent foundation for agro-industrial development.
👉 The new factory will create jobs, expand markets, and increase household incomes, contributing to Uganda’s economic self-sufficiency through processing raw materials rather than exporting them, he concluded.
