Reports has confirmed that Mali’s Defence Chief, Sadio Camara, has been killed in a major coordinated attack.Mali’s Defense Minister, Sadio Camara, has been killed in a deadly suicide attack on his residence near Bamako, marking one of the most high-profile assassinations in the country’s recent conflict. According to the government, a vehicle packed with explosives rammed into his home in Kati, triggering a fierce gun battle in which Camara was wounded before succumbing to his injuries in hospital. The coordinated assault, claimed by jihadist group JNIM along with a Tuareg rebel alliance, struck multiple locations across Mali including Mopti, Gao and areas near the capital. The attack highlights the deepening security crisis facing the military-led government as insurgent groups expand their reach across the Sahel. A two-day national mourning period has been declared as the country reels from the loss.
Mali is facing one of its most devastating security crises in years. On April 25, 2026, a massive, coordinated wave of attacks struck the heart of the country, leaving the capital, Bamako, and several major cities in a state of chaos. This wasn’t just another skirmish—it was a sophisticated, multi-front offensive involving the Al-Qaeda-linked JNIM and Tuareg rebels (FLA), targeting everything from military bases to international airports and government officials’ homes.
