Rise up black family! Today, I am sharing an easy read for you. “The wine of astonishment” by my fellow Afro-Trinidadian, Earl Lovelace. The book gives the story through the eyes of a woman (wife and mother) during the colonial days in Trinidad & Tobago when the neanderthugs were in power and made practicing the Afrikan baptist faith illegal from 1917 to 1951. Everyone says this happened so long ago and things have changed, but as a native Trinidadian, I disagree. Baptists are still looked down on to this day and the persecution of Afrikan baptist followers broke up many families and communities. Are we ever really past the past?? This book will transport you to those days. I highly recommend it.
