And nope, polygamy is not “natural”.

And to the ppl that say things like “there are more women than men”. That is actually not true. Here’s what’s really going on. See in Amerikkka for example, a lot of Black boys/men either end up dead or in jail. That’s one of the main reasons for that imbalance in our communities.

And no, polygamy is not about “nation building”. Can’t believe that’s actually an “argument” lol it literally makes no sense.

@nonmwense-abibi Ayee fela kuti married like 20+ women and after all of that I believe he divorced them he had a change of heart and didn’t believe in the institution of marriage anymore.. He said “women get too jealous” or something along those lines. That’s a lil ironic and hilarious.

@Afropreneur lol, for real that’s a crazy assertion right there.

Personally, I think polygamy may very well be one of the main reasons if not the main reason behind the collapse of many of our nations. I think it establishes way too many cracks amongst a people and brings down the value of women.

Ramses II for example is said to have had over 100 wives. Many of them foreign to boot.

Polygamy almost always takes place among the “ruling class”. I just see it as a ticking time bomb (for the most part). A lot of wars actually be among half siblings for instance. Of course there are wars between full siblings as well, but I think the institution of polygamy introduces way too many fractures and puts more emphasis on war to maintain it.

@nonmwense-abibi mhm I never looked at it from that historical perspective. Would you agree that polygamy was practiced different from our ancestors and through foreign culture /religion it was change to something else? What I see in poly is a lot of domestic abuse, woman with low self-esteem, men with God complex, broken families etc. even some young black brothers who convert to Islam do it for poly… you can’t be broke playing those games and create more broken homes. I haven’t even started on the black celebrities🤦🏾‍♂️

@Afropreneur I think any kind of interaction with foreign ppl/ foreign ways makes us susceptible to corruption.

We have greed amongst ourselves tho. It’s possible that this type of corruption may have started from within – with foreign interaction pouring gasoline on it and fanning the flames.

In many of our Nations, with polygamy, Women are used as “tribute”, as “treaty”, to form alliances, to establish loyalty, to recognize power etc.

I have a few theories concerning the roots of polygamy and how it can be viewed as practical but even considering the best intentions, I think those views are flawed.

I think at best, we practiced polygamy as a way to consolidate power and to ensure direction amongst a people. Numbers are everything. The more numbers a ruler has, the easier it is for them to assert power. At least in “theory”. Is that really a good set up, tho?

Another “practical” perspective to consider: Mentioned this earlier. In Amerikkka Black Women outnumber Black Men due to “systematic racism” (dead or in jail). Not to mention, that difference is even more pronounced in places of “higher education”. How then should this issue be addressed? One may suggest polygamy. What ppl need to realize tho is this: In that situation, wouldn’t polygamy be at best a short term response? Cause if we were to address the problem (“systematic racism”), then would such a set up even exist to begin with?

The way I see it, polygamy is in one way or another fueled and maintained by war. War without Maat. I don’t think we can fully practice our cultures and have polygamy.

@nonmwense-abibi speaking of higher education, we attended a Black College Expo today, and i talked to a rep from Clark Atlanta, and she was preaching about how Black men are needed in college. I asked her what is the female male ratio, she said it’s 7 to 1!!!! edit – i looked it up and looks like she was exaggerating or speaking in general, i see it’s 3 to 1 at Clark.

@AfroN8V 3 to 1 is still mad crazy tho. They could all practice polygamy within the rules of Islam with those numbers lol

Even 2 to 1 would already be catastrophic. For a 2 to 1 ratio if a nation had 1.2 million people, 800,000 would be female; 400,000 male. It would be as if that nation was hit by a great disaster or something lol…

I’m making jokes but I honestly don’t think we’ve fully grasped just how bad it is out here for us.

@Afropreneur Speaking of you can’t be broke, those who want to use “-frikan culture” as an excuse for polygamy need to know that one has to be be able to provide for polygamy to even be considered. That goes for monogamous relationships as well but that goes double (no pun intended) for polygamy in “-frikan culture”.

The islam excuse doesn’t work either. The quran states similar rules to the ones that can be found in “-frikan culture”: Gotta be able to provide and women must be respected.

Ppl really just be out here with excuses. Don’t none of them be following what they claim.
