MANU DIBANGO (1933-2020)
This is a picture of the only CD that I own by Manu Dibango. It is a 1985 compilation released in France on the Accord label.
Dibango was born in Douala, Cameroon. His mother was Duala and his father was Yabassi.
He was one the greatest saxophonists in the world. This was due to his authoritative voice and lively saxophone play. Makossa is an urban musical style featuring resonant rhythms blended with strong instrumentation of horns and saxophones. Manu Dibango’s work epitomizes Makossa.
