I had the priviledge to travel to Ouagadougou for Fespaco. The pan african film festival that takes place every 2 years in Burkina Faso. Many filmmakers, producers, and other cinema professionals gathered for a week of screenings, workshops and seminars. ’23 marked the centenary of the great Sembene Ousmane. A number of his films were shown, and symposiums were held in his honor. 2 Films that were widely acclaimed; ‘Sira,’ by Appolinaire Traore (Burkina Faso), and ‘Mami Wata,’ by CJ Obasi (Nigeria) enthralled audiences. At festival’s end, the Etalon Yennenga was awarded to ‘Ashkal,’ by Youssef Chebbi (Tunisia).

I’d like to make it there next time. I’ve been to Burkina Faso, just not for FESPACO.
