Random Thought
Recently, a brotha was complaining to me about everything under the sun about his business.
1) “The city isn’t giving contracts to brothas.”
2) “Everybody hates us.”
3) “This administration is trying to take us down.”
etc.
While listening to the brotha’s story, I thought of two of my Akan proverbs,
Ɔbi tan wo a, ma ɔnya atanyɛ – If a person hates you, give him a reason to.
Ɔbi se wu a, ma nkwa kyerɛ no – If someone wishes death upon you, you continue to live to astonish him.
As our ancestors said and demonstrated, to be an Afrikan is to be resilient and confident. No way we survive all that we’ve been through without those two critical characteristics.
