“One’s purpose, which among indigenous people is found through remembering, is linked to both the physical world and to the spirit world. We look to the spirit world for the ultimate helper who assists the individual and for filling his or her purpose. This spirit is seen as something like a guardian angel would be seen in the west, and we call the spirit this Siura.”
“Your Siura is behind you, Trying to work with you as closely as possible to keep you on the path of your purpose, speaking to you through your inspiration, your dreams, and your instincts. And offering to your Siura now and then at an ancestor altar or any altar is appropriate, a token of appreciation for diligence and leadership they have shown toward your purpose.”

The Siura, is this not similar to ones “ka” or double?

How could I go about discovering my Siura? Is there risk in not knowling this information, for example making offerings that favor certain spirits over others portentially attracting the very energies one is trying to get protection from. Is intent on contacting one’s Siuras enough to nullify my previous concerns?

Sankofa, do you have visions of things you ought to be doing in life, i.e., starting a business or social enterprise, or organizing Afrikan people on a grand scale? If so, I would say that’s your Siura speaking to you.
I have visions of myself doing various things, and I take them seriously by writing them down anytime it pops into my head. On a weekly or monthly basis, I like to review my notes and plan out how I could achieve the vision. Usually, when I see these visions, I often see the results and not the work it took to get there. Often in these situations, it’s easy to disregard these visions because of the intensive labor required. What Nana Some described is how to overcome such hurdles by communicating with the Siura, our Siura will guide us to our purpose. It’s an awesome concept.

Wow, you got that right.
For some reason, maybe out of fear, I’m reluctant to tie some of my visons to a spiritual aspect much less a guardian or Siura. Particullary because the goals as you said are presented in grandure and the work it takes to get there can be overlooked to the point of not acheiveing them. I’m starting a fast tomorrrow and will add your suggestion of writting and taking review of said visions to my rituals….and add Healing Wisdoms of Afrika to the book list.

The fear is real, and behaviors like procrastination, denial are the result of our non-alignment with our Siura. What’s great, is that when you’re in tune with your Siura, the pieces to the jigsaw puzzle start to match up. Next week, I’m meeting with two people whom I identified as being helpful to me in starting my business. One person texted me about assisting them on an African venture, and during our conversation, I pitched my idea, and she says, “Do you want an investor because I want to invest.” The second person is a Brotha I met at a Community Reinvestment Forum that’s in a similar market to my startup but is willing to assist me in getting started.
Now that I have the vision and people to aid me, I need to follow my Siura and be on my toes, ask good questions, and continue to move.

This might be the dopest thing I’ve read this year and a great practice to build one’s self-esteem.
