Looks like a good read. I’m bringing home Black Women in Antiquity for my daughter @amakambon123 to read tonight.

Oops. Thought I posted this in the Hausa Group? Well anyway, I find it critical information as this is what I’m exploring and where my interests are.
I have a pdf as well of the book “Black Women in Antiquity” and it was great, albeit completely omits this bit of information regarding Hausa queens, hence why articles like this were written.
It goes on to discuss about the different oral orgin myths. One makes good connection to the Daura and that they actually came from Egypt. The Islamicized version ultimately draws a connection to Arabs and distorts of the history of Hausas in the process, by way of erasing the matriarchal and matrilineal past. Memory, or lack thereof, serves an important function which they discuss in how it’s been maintained in the Azna city of Lugu, for example

Probably Kemet rather than Egypt. There is a lot of connecting to arab lineages in the Sahel. A similar thing is done to the descendants of Naa Gbewa who claim that their lineage comes from Baghdad through Naa Tohazie, the red hunter. Some say that the “red” is because he was an arab. Weird stuff. You can still post it in the Hausa group. Indeed, most only know of Nana Amina and not the matrilineal tradition. I have both the PDF and the physical book, so I’ll get my daughter started on the book itself. She’ll probably devour it in a day. Na gode for sharing.

Do you have the entire article?

Indeed, I’d like to see more serious scholarship shared here and maybe less memes. Right now the balance is unbalanced as far as that goes.

You have to use the more robust browser interface to access for now.
