“In Rwanda, women accompany a widow’s mourning with song and with water.
They are not just consoling her; they’re reminding her that life still flows.
That pain can be shared, carried, and dissolved when one is not alone.
This is the power of feminine collective rituals. For centuries, women gathered in circles — in songs, in prayers, in celebrations of life and death.
They were circles of healing, where every tear was welcomed, every pain witnessed, and every woman could feel part of something greater.
But we drifted away from that. Culture taught us to compete, to stay silent, to carry everything alone.
We forgot that being together is also a way to survive.
When women unite, something greater happens.
Pain turns into song. Grief turns into water that cleanses. And life begins to flow again.
Maybe that’s why, every time we gather as women, we feel something ancient awaken inside us – a memory whispering:
“You don’t have to go through this alone.“
a community, a circle where strength meets softness,
and where we remember how to heal together.”

I wonder how they did this before the advent of plastic bags. Carrying clay pots of water?
