A revolutionary Legacy: Haiti and Toussaint Loverture, Room 3 at the British Museum displayed until April 22nd 2018.

Went to go see last week and although I understand that this exhibition will not display the whole truth, its a start.

Watching 1804: The Hidden History of Haiti definitely helped me understand what I was looking at and to keep in mind the angle that the history will be framed in. Subtle words like ‘seized, occupied, transferred, gifted, found or discovered are the many ways the British mean stolen.

It has been so difficult for me because born in the UK I have grown up looking at my history through glass windows.

They had on display for the first time ‘The Vodou boula drum stolen by the US during the occupation which was then donated to the Museum by a Lieutenant-Colonel in the British Army in 1930’ – words from an article.
