Kenya is the largest producer of tea on the continent. It’s satisfying to see progress being made but to my study the majority of tea business in Kenya is owned by a British invader(s), set up in 1904 by Arnold Butler McDowell. Originally this Neanderthal had little success in growing tea until his “Indian friends” helped introduce Assam (Camellia Sinensis assamica), a Indian strain of black, white, and green tea, which is now Kenya’s largest single export of the billion dollar industry.

McDowell broke up his 350+ acres to other asiatics who have since increased there market and shut out black folk from entering (see video). The Competition Authority of Kenya seems to be making some good moves, but you don’t negotiate which part of your house a thief can live. There is still much work to do.
