Call for Papers:
(I reworked this to focus more on the resistance and action of our forebears than on the horrors committed against us. Instead of giving more of the voice to those who perpetuated evil, I attempted to highlight the victory, determination and power of our Ancestors)
As we approach the 400th anniversary of the MAAFA (trans-atlantic slave trade) beginning on the shores of Virginia, we honor and recognize the resistance and rebellions of our foremothers and forefathers that also began and continued throughout the oppressive practice of enslavement. We say Medase Pa (Thank you) to the Africans that survived the MAAFA and had the strength and fortitude to create family, institutions and maintain the vestiges of culture that intergenerational trauma attempted to erase. Because our Ancestors fought to keep our ways and traditions they have allowed us to practice the work of Sankɔfa, reclaiming that which was thought to be lost. We gather to analyze our cultural mis-orientation and collectively develop systems of healing and bring balance that will allow us to mend the intergenerational wounds of the MAAFA, and create a new and powerful Renaissance that is grounded in the Re-discovery, Re-vitalization, and the Re-construction of traditional African culture.
The Maafa Kebuka Planning Committee is seeking scholarly papers and essays to address the formal institution of slavery and system of white supremacy and domination that was formerly established in 1619. Papers can focus on a wide area of topics but should definitely include: • Maroonage (Resistance)• The Psychology of Oppression and its effects on the African mind• Traditional African Spirituality and Liberation • The strength of the Black Family under 400 years of oppression. We look forward to having your valued input as a part of the process. Articles/essays (to include abstracts) no more than 2 – 6 typed pages in length (1.5 line spaced) and submitted in Microsoft Word doc format MUST be received by June 15, 2018. You are to provide the title of your paper, full mailing address, and institutional affiliation, if any, and name of author. Please send papers to:Email: kindu.shabazz@gmail.com
