French A Prominent “African” Language?
French reported to be in west and central Africa considered as a prominent “African” language as it is said to be spoken by roughly 200 million Africans.
Is “Abolition” or “Independence” Liberation?
I have read this interesting and recommended book titled Transatlantic Africa 1440 – 1880 by Kwasi Konadu.
What really struck me the most in that book,
as a so called free descendant of a great great great grand mother, slave on a plantation in the Americas, in the north locality of Macouba, in the French colony of Martinique, was that for the kidnapped African men and women and children made captives and sold as slaves in the Americas, freedom was not just being free from their chains or from the bondage to their masters or just being a free individual.
It was more importantly being able to go back home to reconnect to their community and cultural environment of origin, to be able to find back their sense of belonging without which they felt completely lost and felt their freedom empty with no substance and meaning.
Going back to their roots to be able to fulfill their personhood through their participation to the welfare and perpetuation of their community they had been snatched from and which they owed their very existence and well being to, was the way to liberate themselves and gain back their freedom.
