Images of the nTr Bes from the outer left side panel of the throne of Princess Sitamun, daughter of Nisu Bity Amenhotep III, 18th Dynasty. This is from the Egyptian Museum in Cairo, on my recent pilgrimage to Kmt.
This image depicts Bes beating a hand drum and brandishing two Knives, representing his role as a protective force. While he is associated with music and festivity, in this particular instance the beating of the drum (in each direction) serves the purpose of dispelling malefic forces, while the knives are meant to invoke a particular aspect of this nTr for protection from such forces. The image of Bes is a common feature on Kmty furniture for the aformentioned purposes.
The Nubians still to this day encounter and venerate the nTr Bes as a great helper. More on this a little later 😁!
Next year…be here!
