We will be meeting next week. On the table is teaching Capoeira at the 2nd “Martial Arts” Open School to about 100 students as well as hosting the 2nd African Regional “martial arts” Congress at the University and in conjunction with Abibifahodie Capoeira’s 10-year anniversary.

I’m sure it will be documented by the UNESCO team, but I always keep my own camera close by just in case. 🇬🇭

Just so everyone is clear, this is a global geopolitics (soft) power play where ICM, with korea in the lead is trying to use soft power to get leverage against some regional competitors including china, japan, kwk. Of course my agenda is to steer whatever programs into greater sensitization with regard to Afrikan combat sciences. When I gave my talk in Nairobi, some of the Kenyans were saying they didn’t even know we had “martial arts” much less that we invented combat arts and sciences and that they are proven to be effective. We have a long way to go so we’ll see what can get accomplished before I break away from this due to what will certainly be different objectives in this endeavor.
And this is the talk to which I am referring:
-
different objectives indeed. do what you need to do and keep it moving

True indeed.

Let alone your clear etymology of the name “Martial”. The double-edged sword where you may accept your fighting art but you will still use it for “Martial” purposes unless you break the link by abandoning the term “Martial Arts” and embracing the non-perverted original names

I think abandoning martial is in order all around including arts, purposes, kwk. People out there are using Montu Arts.

I’m glad you found it useful @chiefajamat

Definitely have to get rid of “Martial Arts”. It’s my hopes that they get rid of it when it comes to our culture. @obadelekambon

@chiefajamat, I pushed for this several times during the 1st regional congress. Some were for the idea once I articulated my reasoning, but the majority were not; especially those from ICM who have the term “martial arts” in their institution’s name. I’m not sure the degree to which they even followed the thread of reasoning. For Afrikan people, you are correct, mars gotta go among many other greek and roman gods enshrined in everyday terminology.

At the Martial Arts Conference, were you the only one that practiced an Afrikan Combat System? If you not what other Afrikan systems were present?

There were two brothers from Mali who organized an annual wrestling event. Apart from us, that was it. Everything else was eurasian.
