People are calling this the fight of the century. That brotha Adesanya is a beast.

      • I knew I should have pulled this while it was still up. I was planning on rewarding myself with this after reading what I had assigned myself.

        • I wouldn’t say fight of the century, but Adésànyà dug deep in that last round. Looking forward to him vs. Robert Whittaker.

Adesanya did dig deep inside and tapped into the Afrikan spirit. What were your thoughts on Adesanya’s defense? Although he took a lot of good shots, he ducked a significant number of Gastelum’s power punches. His fighting stance reminds me a lot of Roy Jones Jr., he keeps his guards low and leans forward to give the perception he’s closer than he is.

Robert Whittaker is a tough opponent, but Adesanya seems to rise to the level of his competitors.

            • The whole time I thought he would benefit in terms of offense and defense from learning Asako. It seemed at times like he was operating as though he was in a fight (i.e., as though getting hit is normal in a fight) rather than in a one-sided assassination where he does the damage without taking damage. That’s an interesting comparison in that eventually Roy Jones Jr.’s chin caught up to him. I think it will be a similar story with Adésànyà unless he changes his paradigm to one of attacking without being attacked. Easier said than done in an octogon, but that has to even be the principle you’re operating on before you can accomplish it. At any rate, the only person who I could see possibly making him pay for it is Robert Whittaker. I followed him since TUF and if he can’t make him pay, Adésànyà is safe until someone has his number Anderson Silva style. As always, time will tell.

Nice post! Hell of a fight by both sides, but Israel showed a lot of heart at the end. I remember hearing an interview where Adesanya mentioned keeping his hands down to lower his center of gravity, adding stability to his unorthadox strikes and stances..here I think it’s a perfect example of not doing the right thing at the right time tounecessary punishment. In any case can’t wait to see Adesonya v Whittiker. The former definitly lost that air of invincibility this ight (if that was even a perception by his peers), def has his work cut out avoiding the overhand when moving to his outside out of southpaw though.
