Nkosuohene (honorary chief)?
Since my trip to Ghana in January, I’ve meet a few ppl online who were given the title nkosuohene in small villages or towns. I thought I would read up on the subject as the title seemed to be looked at negatively on sites like GhanaWeb. I wanted to ask your (anyone familiar with the practice) opinion(s) concerning the positives and/or negatives about diasporans being “given” the title?

The idea is that this title is given to those who are perceived as having enough money can be given that title. I know Ghanaians of high perceived social/economic status with the title. -
My teacher Dr Kwabena Ashanti in Durham, NC held the title as well. I’ve been in contact with my guide since I left Ghana and he mentioned the possibility to me and a sister from the US.
