Great UFC card this past weekend.
The main event was DC vs. Stipe 2
DC won the first matchup by knocking out Stipe out of a clinch with a right hook.
Coming into the fight, I agreed with DC that the second rematch wasn’t going to end in an early stoppage like the first match, and because of that, I highly anticipated this brawl.
The fight lived up to my expectations. DC outclassed Stipe in Round 1 with wrestling and striking. At one point DC had Stipe on his back, slammed him, and then proceeded pounded him. In Round 2, Stipe and DC were trading shots, and IMO DC won that round landing more shots than Stipe. Interestingly, for whatever reason, DC had his hands down the whole fight and was willingly eating all of Stipe’s punches perhaps as a message that his punches didn’t hurt. Round 3 was a closer slugfest, but I still gave that round to DC.
In Round 4, again Stipe and DC were trading strikes, however, this time Stipe changed up his strategy and went to town on DC’s body. The whole time I was thinking of the saying,
Bɔ obi nanso mma no mmɔ wo or strike someone, but don’t allow him/her to hit you.
After, 15 right body shots to the liver, Stipe followed another liver shot with a 1-2 combination and knocked DC out.
Going into the fourth all the judges had DC winning, one judge like myself had DC winning all three rounds.
Where I felt DC messed up was that abandoning his strategy of keeping Miocic honest with the wrestling and striking. It was clear Miocic had no answers for the wrestling.
This loss was a shame because DC had Miocic. Unfortunately, I don’t think DC will win the trilogy if it happens. Miocic wrestling preparation will be better in a third fight.
