These unique balls (Soccer/Football) pictured below have been created by Paul (1st Picture) an inspiring young boy who lives in Rakai, Uganda. As a fan of the game, he perfected his skill at creating these balls out of dried banana leaves in order to play with his friends as the real balls he simply could not afford. Today he has turned his skill into a business and the very purchase of these balls have helped him to pay for his school fees as well as to help provide for other children for school as well as help provide for his family.
17 year old Paul’s story starts with the aim that he wanted to study but did not have any money to pay for his school fees, so he started to look for work in order to continue. Whilst fetching water at a nearby town for himself to get school fees, food and medication, Johnson Lwondo the President and Co-Founder of Hope Again Women was at this very same market. Johnson now partnered with Feed My Starving Children and the Market Place where they were selling some of their products, one of them came out with the ball when it came as a product to sell at the market place.
Wanting to find out who created these balls and then finding out that Paul only made these balls for recreation purposes, Johnson instantly thought that Paul had an opportunity. It is from here that his organisation found Paul and asked if he could make more of these balls and as a result Paul was able to earn a small income, able to provide for his family, able to go to school as well as being able to employ other children (4th Picture).
These children now employed by Paul were able to help make these balls on a professional level (with Paul) to earn money. The money has been able to help the children to school. Currently, it is said that Paul is working with 10-11 children (hoping to rise in number) and is continuing to be able to get an income and support these other children as well as himself to go to school.
