“One afraid of heat cannot become a chief” is a very important proverb within the oral tradition of the Baganda people of Uganda. Being a Chief is highly revered, but it requires real and hard work, especially during the past when chiefs had to travel on foot through their constituencies, wherever they happened to be. One must also be physically as well as mentally prepared to face and solve difficult problems, including dealing with difficult people. So if one is not ready for the challenges and hardships related to ones desired position, especially one of leadership, one should not pursue that position. In other words, one who cannot stand heat cannot be in a kitchen.
