I remember during this month as a child I heard a elder with this thing where they said tee dey fus a agass tenk u mah sah, u lick me me lick u tenk u mah sah ( today first of August thank u master u hit me I hit u thank master ) It just speaks volumes to the horrific slavery & plantation experience that had a great impact on our people even up until today, that people will recite these things so deeply. But it was really a short lived joy for some who felt they were emancipated & was turnt out off the plantation just like u turn out cows or goats or any animals from the pens they were confined to. I can’t imagine the amount of trauma filled people being set free to survive with so many unhealthy learnt behaviors with no therapy or psychological care whatsoever. There has to be residual impacts and it’s very evident with how we treat each other here and now & how we also react to those who caused the harm. To make it worst now it takes 💰to care & too bad if u don’t have d 💰u may av to stay in dat trauma & create some unhealthy coping mechanisms (addictions like religion, alcoholism, sex, smoking & the over use of things that should be used in moderation. We should be able to find persons in our communities who offers free therapy & counseling at a cost that is affordable or with a payment plan. 💰Or no 💰 we should b able to offer these important health tings to our people because it’s vital for us to do the inner work so we can identify certain unhealthy toxic behaviors so they r addressed, erased & not passed on.
