Wah gwaan family! Today I am sharing a book that woke me up years ago. Harriet Jacobs’ writing is so good, you can actually picture yourself in those times. Our ancestor talks about the dehumanization of Afrikan women, jealousy from white women (an often overlooked enemy), and her struggle to escape slavery with two children. One scene stands out to me in this book. A Neanderthug pastor was giving a sermon to a group of enslaved afrikans. One Afrikan women stood up and cried out to the Almighty to give her strength as all of her children were sold from her. The pastor was on the side laughing behind the book. The pain of black women wasn’t taken seriously back then, and it still isn’t today. Tell me, are we ever really past the past??

It was originally published by Linda Brent in 1861, but this version was published by Barnes and Noble Inc.

Good share, you are showing me books I haven’t seen before. I will look for this one. We are still living in the same system. I don’t expect a neanderthug to care for any Afrikan, they are the enemy. And I also don’t expect an Afrikan to be in a church. What matters is that we care for each other as Afrikans.

I can’t wait for you to get this one!! It is not as dense as Frederick Douglass’ book, but powerful nevertheless. Our people need to rid themselves of this white savior complex . First step, stop going to these “churches”.

Got it already. I’m going to look at it next and give my review
