Recently watched this amazing film on the Black Bougainville Revolutionary Army who live on the Solomon Island chain, north east of Australia.
Here is a story stuffed full of local innovations created during their war against a cooper mine, Australian mercenaries and the Papua New Guinea military. These Africans reveal their survival techniques, military tactics, power generation, food production and even the spiritual powers that they use in battle alongside and in spite of their belief in white Jesus (interesting echoes of Haiti). Their story is a very interesting mix of ecological reverence and abundance, self-sufficiency and South Pacific Islander / African ingenuity. I’ll never look at a coconut tree the same again!

Imagine attending a training course to learn their innovative use of palm trees! Would love that!
